Just went to Rolling Pot to redeem my free shabu shabu. Man, evie stuffed. I think I've been eating out too much lately, I need to eat something light tomorrow and Friday.
Completely slept in today, got a call at 9:20am from The Tallest Woman In The World asking me where I was. I was still in bed, sound asleep. From what I can understand, I forgot to set my alarm last night. Either that, or I completely slept through my alarm which sounds at 1-minute sessions every 9 minutes for an hour. Who knows, all I know is that when I finally got to work, I still had pillow marks on my face. And I got a hug instead of being yelled at. Heehee.
I was driving to dinner after work when I noticed this trucker in front of me was holding up a hammer to his head. Know what he did with it? Scratch his back. Yup, with the pointy end. I bet he thought no one could see him, except that he had those big windows in the back of this truck. Teehee. Now that I think about it, a hammer used as a back scratch could hurt, those things are sharp!

messy eve.
why oh why..
Why doesn't that "You are Windex" thing fit properly?? It fits on baby.chai's.. Anyhoo, either I was lying through my teeth when I was answering that quiz, or it's complete bs. I'm sorry, me, neat freak? Couldn't be more wrong. Let me tell you a typical day in Evie's room.
It starts with waking up, rolling over and looking for my glasses. Are they on the carpet? Nope. In the laundry basket overflowing with clothes? Nope. Ah, there it is, resting on one of the numerous bags/purses strewn about on my carpet. Then it's rifling through the closet looking for something to wear for work. I'll put one thing on, decide against it, take it off, throw it on my desk (where it'll sit for a few days) and choose something else. The same thing happens when I come home from work. I change and clothes wind up on the floor/bed/desk/chair, never in the closet, cuz that's just wrong. Whenever Ed and I sit on the carpet to watch a DVD, we are forever digging up bags/clothes/socks/pants from under us and shoving it to the side. It's not just the clothes either. It's papers, letters, binders, books, magazines, various knick knacks. It's the worst during exam time. The carpet is so covered that I don't even bother avoiding the clutter, I just step right on it to cross the room.
Yes, I'm a slob. And damn proud of it. Mind you, I clean up every so often and marvel at how much more spacious my room can be without the clutter. But it never stays that way. It'll be messy about in about half a day. Some people are amazed with brilliant scientists or great cooks. Me? I'm amazed with people who have zero clutter, like the ones in decorating magazines.
And no, my room is not dirty. It's just messy. There's a difference. Dirty is like piling wet clothing on top of each other on the floor and tracking mud into the room. I don't live like that. I do have the line drawn somewhere.
time for: work. I'll go home and post up a messy room pic later.

weekend update.
In the words of Edwin, it's time to xanga-ize my weekend. Or blogger-ize.
You know it has been a long day when you go home at 2am thinking, "whoa, I was at work this morning? That seemed like such a long time ago." It's been one thing after another this "long weekend". Wasnt' really a long weekend since I had to work both Friday and Saturday.
It was great to see everyone yesterday though. A bunch of people at Dom's. A bunch of people at Troy's bachelor dinner. And hunny afterwards. Know who I didn't really want to see? A certain pilot big-man wannabe. Seriously, will this teasing ever end? It was seven years ago! Come on, people, stop reminding me, I don't really want to remember anything. It time to just let those memories fade away... as quickly as possible. He's moving away to Winnipeg and I'm supposed to miss him? Please! Don't ever ask an ex whether or not they'd miss you, cuz it's more likely that they'll laugh in your face than that they'll say yes.
Anyhoo, the restaurant was crap. The company was bordering annoying. Thank goodness I didn't breakdown and agree to go to Whiskey's with them. (There, saved you 20 bucks, Edwin and Bas) We just cracked opened a bottle of champagne in the parking lot, watched out for cops, toatsted Troy (yay, Troy!) and went on our way.
I fell asleep snored so loud at Edward's that he actually had to wake me. In my defense, it was on the couch and I was sleeping funny.
One more thing, I stole this off Brian's Xanga.

this is getting tiring..
The past few weeks have been a non-stop string of activities and various rushing around and I'm starting to feel a little rundown. The lack of sleep and the lack of what I like to call "evie time" is starting to get to me.
Juggling work, school, a relationship, personal time and friends is not easy at all. Especially with the arrival of tax season, there's just no way I'm going to have time to rest properly. But then again, I wouldn't trade any of it. Okay, maybe I wouldn't mind taking school off my hands, but everything else is great. It reminds of my high school days when I was super busy with various activities and just loving being swirled up in all of it.
It's still weird to think that I actually have a job now. It was only 2 months ago when I spent everyday struggling to wake up at 11 and then go on to sit on my bum all day doing nothing productive. Now I spend everyday struggling to wake up at 8 and then go to sit on my bum all day at the office doing something semi-productive. This kinda feels like that first year of university when I would think it odd that I'm in university since the high school mentality was still to familiar to me.
Anyway, I just have to hang in there for another month or so. Then school will be over. Tax season will be over. Overtime will be over. Then I'll have that glorious two-month period before I have to start worrying about my CKEs (an exam in the CA path).
time for: din din? then clean my room. (why is that such a never ending task??)

it's 9:40am, what am i doing here??
And so it starts. I knew it had to start at some point but it still doesn't make it any better to deal with. No, not menopause. Tax season. Stupid annoying tax season when evie has to work on saturdays.
I was asked to come in at 9 this morning... so I got here at 9. It's not 9:40 and I'm the only one here. I already finished my work from yesterday and there's nothing I can start. I could have slept in for another 40 minutes! I just hope that we can get the hell out of here at like 2 or so. I don't want to stay here 'til 5!
Good thing a newspaper came with my Mickey D's breakfast, or else I'd be completely bored.
uh oh, boss is here!
time for: work!

here we go!
Alright, I finally have a night free and the programs are all working properly. Muahahahaha.
So anyway, Boston is a very picturesque city. It has gorgeous buildings, the city is very closed in and just has an overall old-city feel to it. The transportation system is awesome. Makes me think the TTC really overcharges for such crap service. Boston's system consists of 5 long subway lines, a commuter rail line, and a huge system of buses going every direction thoughout the city. And we are talking about a city that is much smaller than Toronto. It's efficient, albeit a little confusing, but well worth the time to figure out anyway.
On to the pictures.
One thing we really looked forward to with Boston was the fresh seafood. We headed over to Quincy market on our second day there and we were definitely not disappointed.

26 CDN for this lobster combo? Sold! There's actually a delicious clam chowder included in this, but Edward inhaled it all before I could take a picture.

You know, I don't think I've ever seen Edward enjoy food this thoroughly before. Seriously. He took my role! The hell? What am I if not the food-lover in the relationship??
As for me, I prefer my lobster taken out from the shell and chopped up. Preferrably mixed with some mayo and served on a bun.

Big chunks of lobster in every bite, I tell ya! Getting hungry yet?? Okay, one last food pic.

Mmmmm... luscious, plump, fresh oysters with overflowing oyster juice. I think we had three orders of these in two days. So yummy. So fresh. So cheap.
Lest you think all we did was stuff our mouths all weekend, here's proof we left the food stalls.

This was taken at the MIT Museum (cuz we also had to satisfy the geek in us). They had a bunch of art/mechanical installations and this one was my favourite. The wheel is in slow perpetual rotation. And that white thing on top of it? It's a garlic peel. In the shape of a person. See the legs? And the kinda drooped head? It's a forlorn person. Made out of a garlic peel. Anyway, as the wheel is rotating, there's some thingie-mi-jiggy attched to the peel person which makes it put its right leg foward.. then its left.. and so on. So he's like walking on the wheel, really slowly, really sadly. I love it.
We were eating brunch on the day we left when I noticed this peculiar looking bottle.

Teehee! It's a heinz bottle! But short and fat! I thought Mags would have a good laugh about this, so I took a picture. And then I thought, hell, why don't I just get her one? So I asked the waitress where the nearest grocery store was so I could buy my own. She spoke with the manager since she had no idea where to get it and the manager sold us a new one for a buck. Hahah. Me dorkus! So now I have it sitting in front of me, all short and super cute.
We headed towards the shopping area after brunch. Okay, so maybe I kinda dragged Edward, but I'd like to think he enjoyed the 3 level shoe store as much as I did. Anyway, this was in the said shoe store on the clearance level:

Not sure if you can tell, but it's table listing what prices would be after various discounts. This is to help the intelligent Amercians figure out how much each pair of shoes will cost after a 20%, 40%, 60% or 80% is taken off the last ticketed price. I saw this one lady who kept running back and forth from the signs to the racks of shoes. I thought it was pretty funny. In a stupid Amercian sort of way.
You know how they say that Americans eat more, drink more, bascially consumer more? Well, check out this can of Arizona Grape Drink.

It's a whole litre. In one can. For 99 cents. I guess they really do super-size everything.
We checked out a bunch of other stuff out while we were down there, like the area around the school Edward could potentially attend. We hit a couple of malls, the waterfront. Unfortunately we didn't get to Havard Square since the weather was just crap. We did eat at mickey d's... but no McLobster. :( and their fries tasted boring.
Okay, it's getting late, I better end this here.
Oh, one more thing, I'm so glad they don't have these here.

Kinda ruins it for people trying to save the game for later, huh? *dammit! I'm gonna have to wander on the street with my eyes closed cuz i'm saving the game for later!*
time for: shower and bed. it's getting late.

gaugh! no time.
uhm.. the pics that have been posted? They are supposed to be part of my Boston entry.. but I've been pretty busy and tired since Sunday so I haven't had time to properly put an entry together yet. I started to, which is why the pics are posted.
See, blogger has this really tedious way of posting pics in an entry. Basically I have to post the pics as individual entries.. and go in and copy the html.. and then paste them into the compilation entry. Okay, so maybe there's an easier way to do this. But I dunno how cuz I'm not tech-savy. Like Miss Baby Chai. :)
Hopefully I'll get around to it tomorrow. Before I forgot what we did in Boston. The ol' noodle is malfunctioning lately, forgetting EVERYTHING.
time for: bed, me thinks.

i want 50% off, dammit!
Heard about this deal with Fido that if you call and say you want to switch to telus, Fido will give you 50% off for the first year if you sign a two-year contract.
Sounds good to me! So I attempted this even though I don't like to talk to CS reps. Didn't turn out so good for me.
The guy basically said, "We can't match this, good luck with Telus, they suck."
Excellent. So I told him that I'll think about it and call back to cancel later. Yup, that's me, Eve the queen of ineffective bluffs. Sigh. I'll call and try this again. Perhaps I'll get a rep with less determination.
time for: wasted my lunch on Fido. Time to work again.

grad ball 2005
The U of W faculty of Mathematics Grad Ball on saturday was... well.. kinda boring. I knew maybe 20 people who attended and a handful of these are merely accquaintances. I kept checking Terence's watch the whole night and thinking, "man, will this party ever end?". By midnight I was more than ready to call it a night.
Of course, we couldn't leave without a mandatory photo session. So we did them in groups: all the Jackson people; Zion people; Cliffwood people.
I particularly liked the pic with all the Pineway people. I thought it was the best one. I could be biased though.

Trekked over to Angela's house afterwards to hang out. Their place is so nice. Made me wonder why I lived that hellhole they called a house on Sunview for 3 years. Oh right, my housemates were more concerned with saving 50 bucks a month than living in more comfortable quarters. Grr. Oh sure, it's all about being economical until there's a mice problem/the furnace dies/the plumbing backs up and floods the basement. Then it's all, "oh Eve, I have an exam tomorrow, could you take care of it?" Curses, Sunview.
Anyway, ranting aside, the after-party gathering was a lot of fun. The 15 of us played various games like Uno, electronic Pick-up-Stix (so fun), chinese checkers, PS2 and some punky-ass, really-loud dice game. People got progressively loud as they got more drunk, and I rocked the Pick-up-Stix due to the lack of said drunkeness. See? there's always an upside to passing on the alkihol. Left their place at around 3:30 completely exhausted, but happy.

Hi Boston!
Yay!! The trip is booked! At a cost more economical than we orginally thought!
guh? Right. Time to backtrack a little.
Edward has an interview with a school down in ol' Boston, MA and invited me to go with him. At first I was all, "hell ya!", then I was all "but what's there to do?". After reading up on the city, it really seems like a place worthy of a visit.
Then there was the inevitable, "What if my parents won't let me go?" But alas, I know how to handle my parents. The trick is to tell them that I'm going and not ask for permission. I picked up this little trick in OAC/1st year. It may seem ridiculous to some people, but D, you know where I'm coming from.
So then I was really excited about going... until we checked hotel and airfare prices. uhm. how many bills/bones/dollars did you say? eek. But Chris at work kindly looked up packages for me with expedia.ca and found some awesome packages with a hotel smack in the middle of downtown Boston. We checked some gorgeous B&Bs in the area but they were all booked up. Oh well. I don't mind hotels either.
.... this brings me back to the beginning of the entry. Yay!! The trip is booked! At a cost more economical than we orginally thought!
time for: dinner. then prep for my presentation tomorrow. Sarbanes-whatnow?
